The installation of linear bearings must follow specific steps and precautions to ensure stability and safety after installation. Below are the basic steps and key points for installing linear bearings:

Anti-rust treatment for linear guide rails

The SQ operator is applying anti-rust oil to the linear bearings.

Preparation

Before installing the linear bearing, burrs, dirt, and surface blemishes on the mechanical installation surface must be removed. Linear bearings are coated with anti-rust oil; therefore, the datum surface must be cleaned with cleaning oil before installation. Linear bearings include Linear Motion Bearings; for instance, LMH20UU, as a type of flange linear bearing, is also coated with anti-rust oil for protection, so attention must be paid to surface cleaning before installation.

Cleaning and Inspection

Clean the bearings and associated components to ensure the surfaces are free of impurities. If the bearings have been previously used, they must be thoroughly cleaned using professional methods before installation. After cleaning, inspect the dimensions and finishing of the bearings and associated components to ensure there are no defects. Ensure the quality of the components is reliable and that they meet the operational requirements regarding dimensions and machining accuracy.

Installation Process

  1. Gently place the linear bearing onto the lathe/machine bed, and use lateral fixing screws or other fastening tools to lightly fit the linear rail against the lateral installation surface.
  2. Tighten the positioning screws of the linear bearing in sequence from the center to both sides to make the rail fit against the vertical installation surface. Tightening from the center toward both ends provides more stable precision.
  3. Slowly tighten the positioning screws of the linear bearing slide rail one by one using a torque wrench, according to the specified torque for various materials.
  4. Use the same installation method to install the auxiliary rail, and install individual sliding blocks onto the main and auxiliary rails.
  5. Gently place the mobile platform onto the sliding blocks of the main and auxiliary linear bearing rails, then lock the lateral tightening screws on the mobile platform to complete the installation and positioning.

4. Precautions

During the installation process, be careful not to directly strike the snap rings or oil seals at the side ends of the outer cylinder, and use appropriate tools for installation.

During installation, ensure that the load is distributed uniformly across the entire rolling surface of the steel balls, especially when bearing moment loads.

Linear bearings are not suitable for rotational applications; forced rotation may lead to accidents.

The above are the installation methods and precautions for linear bearings. During the installation process, please strictly follow the linear bearing manufacturer's guidance and instructions to ensure installation quality and the service life of bearings such as the LMH20UU.
